Behind the Campaign

Dorothy Bradley grew up in Bozeman, Montana, received her BA from Colorado College in 1969 in Anthropology and her law degree from American University in 1983.  At the age of 22, Dorothy ran for a seat in the Montana House of Representatives where she served as the only woman in 1971.  She served a total of eight terms, was known for the difficult issues she championed and gained recognition for here consensus-building approach.  Dorothy ran for Governor in 1992.  She briefly taught at a small rural school next to the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, was the Director of the Montana University Water Center, and recently retired as the District Court Administrator for the 18th Judicial District in Gallatin County.  She has an Honorary Doctorate from Colorado College.  

Sherri Ohs resides in Helena.   She graduated from Capital High School and attended Helena College of Technology – UM.  She is the owner of Montana Records Management and a Montana business-woman and rancher in Harrison, Montana.  She worked alongside her husband, Karl Ohs, as he campaigned for Lt. Governor in 1999 and while he was chair of the Montana Republican Party from 2004 to 2007.   Sherri remains very active in church and community affairs.  She is the mother of four children and two grandchildren.

Campaign Treasurer

Hon. Gordon Bennett was born in Scobey, Montana.  Gordon served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946.  He received a BA in Economics from Carleton College in Minnesota in 1947, an MA in journalism from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri in 1950, a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., in 1956.  He has worked as a farmer, a reporter, an assistant Attorney General in Montana and in private practice.  He worked as an associate solicitor for the U.S. Department of Interior, ran unsuccessfully as a candidate for the Montana Supreme Court in 1962.  Gordon served as a District Court Judge in the 1st Judicial District from 1971 to 1988.  Since retiring from the bench, he has been a law instructor, mediator and arbitrator.  He and his wife reside in Helena.  They have two children.

Campaign Manager

Jim Oppedahl has been employed with the Montana Legislative Council and the Governor’s Office of Budget and Program Planning. In addition, he has been an administrator in three different divisions of Montana’s Department of Justice.  When he retired in April 2006, Jim was the State Court Administrator for the Montana Supreme Court.   Jim served as a VISTA Volunteer on the Leach Lake Reservation in Minnesota, and he was a Peace Corps Volunteer in India. Jim also served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. Jim has a master's degree in history from the University of Montana.  Jim is the owner of RJO Consulting, LLC and he and his wife Anita reside in Helena. They have four sons.
